About Nicki

NO_about_nicki_small.jpgA teacher of the Franklin-Method®  since 2003 and Pilates having qualified with the Body Control Pilates Association® in 1999.

As a keen sports person; I came to Pilates with an ill-conditioned spine and recurring injuries. Pilates provided the foundation for support that had been missing for many years. As there were no classes in Cambridge at the time and my body was complaining bitterly about having to work long hours in front of a PC – I quit my IT job and retrained.

I then studied The Franklin Method over a 3 year period and deepend my understanding of the mechanics of movement. I began to learn more about how the body functions and how to increase movement potential through the use of imagery.

I have a passion for anatomy and learning how the design of the human body facilitates its unique movement. I work with the muscular system, the joints and even the viscera (organs).

I see people for a multitude of reasons, some come for rehabilitation, some for education and others to improve their technique, either sport oriented or dance related. I work with all age ranges and am starting to see more teenagers which in some respects is a good thing in that the earlier bad habits are ironed out the less they become ingrained.

I try to transfer much of my learning in to my teaching and suspect that people who are drawn to my classes are looking for a similar pathway to me: a way for effortless and efficient movement in a balanced body.

Research

Over the next couple of years I am studying for an MSc in Dance Science at Trinity Laban in London. This will give me the opportunity to embark on research in to current and new models for core stability and strength training and to study biomechanics. The research results will be fed into my courses and workshops – so watch this space….

Structural Integration

I am also delighted to begin training with Tom Myers - a world-renowned body worker whose insight into the fascial connectivity of the body helps us to understand how to help regain postural alignment and balanced movement. I shall be bringing more of this work into my private sessions.
